We did but we missed around 8 good hits.
And Dan got hung in the rocks with a Shark on for 30+ mins.
I lost a nice Shark after a 20 min fight.
Mark missed a nice hit on a live jack.
We could have had 7 more sharks landed that day.
Maby next time.
I'm changing my rigs up alittle bit. ![]()
And I'm going to get 60 or maby 80lb mono soon.
way to go guys, it looks like you had a realy good trip. congrats on all the fish you guys got, veary nice jacks and cuda. and congrats on that huge blacktip. great thinking on how to get the baits out mark. keep up the great team work. im looking forward to your guys next report.
Awesome report with good results. Way to tough it out in the rough weather. On your 9/0 id run 60lb, i personally use triplefish 80lb and under and slay sharks under 10ft with no problem. Also, to help with some of those missed hookups check your hook sizes and placements. If most sharks there are tippers in the 5-7ft range id use 9/0 xxx-strong hooks. Smaller hook will likely increase your hook sets. With your bait 20-30yds out you shouldnt need to running man, will pull more hooks that way. Just my 2cents, keep it up....oh and id send one of those 5ft tippers out alive ![]()
I went up there yesterday 12/7 and I saw alot of rays mostly big ones.
I was only up there for 2 hrs but there was alot of divers in the way so I didn't even try to fish it.
I'm going to try to keep running 50lbs test up there I ran about 1/4 mile of my line up the jetty
and there was alot of frays in it, that could have been why I lost that shark the other weekend.
JD anytime you and Mark & Dan want to come up there let me know.

I actually didn't do the running man on any sharks this trip, I took some steps backwards and pumped about 10 times until the sharks started burning away line. Jimmy has the right sized hooks for the job, he was using single strength 14/0s and stuck his sharks, I stuck my shark with a 12/0 double strength and Dan landed his shark on a similar sized hook, it was the small circles and j's that were coming out of the sharks every time 6/0 and 8/0 sizes I believe.
Just an average fisherman.

Oh okay makes sense, probably small sharks trying to eat more than they could handle ![]()
The problem with the moray eels up there is they tie their tails in a knot
and get them wedged in the rocks and if you give them slack they just keep going back into the hole.
I've seen 4ft-7ft eels up there kinda a yellow/green color. I had one spin around my line and accually
climb up onto my rod and climb down to my reel, I had to drop the rod it on the jetty and drop a
rock on his head to get him to stop. I chopped him into small chunks but only got the Nurse's.
When I put my bait bucket in the water about 30min to an 1hr later there is always one there trying
to get to the bait. ![]()
I think a nice hand gaff would be great for them.
speaking of a gaff look what I just got for $19.95
